Bob McClelland This is a series of photographs taken around north Manchester, England, which show the magical aspects of ordinary places, with emphasis placed upon natural forces working within the urban boundaries.
In uninhabited places, such as deserts or other tracts of wild country, one is often moved by the essentially mysterious qualities of nature. However, these same qualities may be found within the urban boundaries, but they usually go undetected as a result of familiarity, preconditioning, and the pace of modern living.
It is important that these photographs be seen as 'records' of things seen in the urban environment. But more importantly, they are records of magic - magic light, magic shapes, magic juxtapositions. The fact that they actually existed - as found objects, untouched by the photographer - is an important part of their meaning and their beauty.
